The Baroque and Rococo gem Dresden is one of the most interesting cities in Germany. Almost completely destroyed in WW II it's now reconstructed in its former beauty, even the ruins of the "Church of our lady" have been puzzled together again and the cathedral is reopened again. The Saxonian kings (Dresden was their residence) were very interested in art and science, their special focus was on producing and collecting porcelain (Dresden China), the "Zwinger" (a palace for the royal collections) is now the museum highlight. Dresden offers a great combination of 1st class sightseeing and the life of a student town.
